Can You Keep Shocks On After Installing An Air Suspension Kit?

May 24, 2024 Leave a message

No, an air suspension system replaces factory shocks and struts with air shocks, so shocks are not needed after installation. However, some say that shocks are still necessary to control a vehicle with air springs, and that running without shocks will result in a bouncy ride. In this case, you can relocate the shocks or install a relocation kit later.

Here are some tips for installing air shocks:
Tighten the plastic nut on the dust shield fitting by hand. Overtightening can pinch off the air line.
For a manual system, maintain a minimum of 20 PSI in the shocks.
When under load, only add enough air pressure to maintain a level ride height. Adding too much air can damage suspension parts and make the ride harsh.

Air suspension systems can be prone to mechanical issues, such as leaks in air springs, rust or moisture damage, and air fitting failures. Some say that a rushed installation can also impact the reliability and performance of the air suspension.
